What to Expect
When you visit any of the Sierra Smiles locations, our goal is to make you feel as comfortable, safe, and relaxed as possible. We also take our commitment to Complete Health Dentistry seriously, so you’ll probably encounter some new procedures and screenings with us that you may not have had at a dentist’s office before. Here’s what you can expect as a new patient.
Initial New Patient Visit
On your first visit to our office, you’ll meet with one of our doctors who will get to know you, your medical history, and your wellness goals.
Our conversation will cover:
What Complete Health Dentistry is
What your health goals are
Your prior medical and dental history
An introduction to our Healthy Mouth Baseline
After your conversation with the doctor, you’ll meet our team who will complete a comprehensive set of diagnostics to help determine what care will be most helpful for you.
Our diagnostics include:
Blood pressure check
X-rays
Intra-oral photos
Oral cancer screening
Healthy mouth baseline check
Thorough exam of your mouth, teeth, tongue, airway, and gum tissue
Because your first visit with our office is very comprehensive, we’ll determine a complete health plan for you and bring you back for your hygiene wellness visit or for appropriate periodontal care.
Professional Hygiene Wellness Visit
At your hygiene wellness visit, you’ll meet one of our Registered Dental Hygienists who will give you a professional cleaning and exam.
Your hygiene wellness visit will include:
Blood Pressure check and medical history review
Healthy Mouth Baseline--a discussion of what a healthy mouth should look like
A full mouth probe (periodontal screening) of your gum tissue
Removal of harmful bacteria (plaque & tartar) and stains
Polishing and flossing
X-rays and other imaging
Screening for oral cancer and sleep/airway obstruction
Subsequent Visits
For your visits after the initial new patient appointment, you can continue to expect a friendly welcome, detailed exams, hygiene wellness visits, screenings, and thorough and helpful discussions about your health–both oral and beyond.
Look forward to:
Advanced imaging and screenings
Detailed care plans
Spa-like perks: herbal neck wraps, paraffin hand dips, and wireless headphones
Education on your complete health
Quick, effective treatments

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Complete Health Dentistry?
Dentists, doctors, and researchers have found a clear connection between your mouth and the rest of your body. In fact, bacteria, gum disease, and bone loss in your mouth can lead directly to diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and diabetes. Complete Health Dentistry works to educate you about how attending to your oral health will help you prevent chronic illness in the future. We use the latest technology to help screen for potential issues and create individualized treatment plans to help you become healthier and happier than ever before!
Do you take insurance?
Yes. We bill ALL dental insurances. We are in-network with many insurances, and even if we are not in-network you can still come to see us! We have an amazing Smile Advantage Dental Savings program for all those who do not have dental insurance that will save you a lot of money, without the hassles of waiting periods and maximums. We have also partnered with CareCredit to give you options and make financing your dental treatment easy.
Why is the first appointment so long?
We value your smile, your oral health, and your overall health. Your initial new patient appointment will help us set a baseline for your health, do thorough screenings, teach you about Complete Health Dentistry, and give us a chance to make a plan for improving and maintaining your overall health.
